 Presented here is the seed that Joseph and Kathryn hope may grow into a full life's work. For one year, the paintings were created monthly, chronicling the changes that the artists experienced in their environment and within themselves. Each piece contains a deeply personal meaning, but the artists hope that every viewer may relate to them in his own way. For this endeavor, Joseph and Kathryn followed the tropical zodiac - rather than the Julian calendar - because it lines up squarely with the changing seasons (the first day of Aries is the first day of Spring, etc.). The Kathryn Series functioned as a period of training for the artists. Each monthly assignment was a rigorous challenge to live up to, but Joseph and Kathryn have since opted to allow this type of working to arise more spontaneously. This twelve painting cycle now stands as a symbol of the life's work that they hope to fulfill, and it represents an important year's journey - both as people and as painters.
