Hi Dean,

I actually use raw umber, not burnt ... and I rarely use white, since it changes the color of everything and makes corrections more difficult. The lighter areas are just the white of the canvas showing through. But sometimes I will use white in landscapes, especially in the sky, as it provides an interesting contrast. Also, in this painting, I painted the sky, roof and foreground opaquely (raw umber + white), and the pond and the dragon transparently (no white):

So happy that you're happy, Richard! This was a special piece, and I vividly remember the painting process. I'm with you on the birdhouse painting ... if I ever win the lottery, I promise I'll give it to you :)

Joseph,

Every since I bought his painting I have really enjoyed the fullness of it. I was so torn between many of you're works in this show but setteled on this after two weeks of soul searchig.
It was everything I wanted, a figure and a landscape. Thank you for creating this amazing piece. I love and enjoy it every day!!!

The one I really wnat is of the two girls at the bird house. If there is EVER a way I can buy it I will!

Thanks Horace! I hope you all are well. I'm really looking forward to the workshop at Renee's. We're also at an exciting step with the house - milling and carving rafter tails for the upper roof ... pictures to follow soon ....

Joseph,

Very good, and thank you for the explanation of how you approached the subject and the steps of execution. It looks really peaceful and much in the Daily style.

I also wanted to thank you for the email you sent me and taking the time to look through my pieces. It is a great help to me, so again I want you to know I appreciate it. I will take your observations and work to correct areas where possible.

Please keep in touch.
