"Joseph Daily was an outstanding student and a wonderful person to boot. The quality of his work, as anyone looking at his paintings can well see, is exemplary. I always cite Joe, to my current students, as a living testimony to the validity of the principles I teach. I predict that he will be a major force in the field of portraiture for years to come."  Born in 1981 to illustrators Don and Renee Daily, Joseph was fortunate to have been raised in a highly creative environment. He began his formal artistic training in high school, where instructor Susan Jewett laid a strong foundation for his developing talents. He went on to study painting at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, and is deeply grateful to Marvin Mattelson for the invaluable technical guidance that he provided. Though Joseph was able to sustain a trickle of portrait commissions after graduating in 2003, work was scarce through the next two years. The tide turned in May of 2005, when a portrait of his then-fiancee's father won Best of Show at the Portrait Society of America's Annual Portrait Conference. A fortuitous meeting with Minnie S. Churchill - director of the Churchill heritage and keynote speaker at the conference - threw a struggling career into swift success. Joseph now maintains a steady stream of commissions from clients on both sides of the Atlantic, traveling to the U.K. several times per year. Presently, Joseph and his wife Kathryn live and work in a small cabin in rural northeastern Pennsylvania. There they witness the seasons change and embrace the reflections of these changes in themselves, as they strive to uncover their true path as artists. Although they continue to welcome the many wonderful opportunities that portraiture affords, they look forward to spending more and more time creating paintings that come from within. Ultimately, they endeavor only to live in a manner pleasing to their Creator. |
